1. Introduction

Welcome to Highlight AI, a desktop application designed to enhance your productivity when interacting with various external applications. This policy outlines the types of information we collect through Highlight AI and its related services, including but not limited to HighlightGPT, and how we use, store, and protect that information.

2. Information We Collect

We collect certain types of information to provide, maintain, and improve Highlight’s services. Our priority is to ensure your data remains secure and private. Here's what we collect and how we handle it:

Personal Information:
  • To create and manage your account, we may collect details like your email address, phone number, or credentials. This enables you to save your chat history, manage your content, personalize your experience, and enables us to provide support.
Screen & Audio Data:
  • Highlight is NOT continuously recording your screen. It never records any video whatsoever. Only screenshots.
  • Your screen and audio data are never stored by default. They remain on your device unless you explicitly submit them to an AI model for processing.
  • Raw audio is never saved. It’s transcribed locally, and the transcript is encrypted and stored only on your device.
  • If you enable cloud sync and transcription, Highlight will process audio transcripts securely in the cloud, then immediately discard the original audio. Without cloud sync, all transcription happens locally, and the raw audio is discarded.
  • Highlight captures screenshots when you activate it. No screen recordings or videos are ever stored—locally or otherwise.
  • However, if you enable automatic task detection, Highlight will periodically and securely analyze your screen contents and active audio transcript to detect tasks relevant to you.
Usage Data:
  • We do not use the contents of your conversations with Highlight AI, except for you to access your chat history. Your interactions remain entirely private.
  • We collect limited data about how you use Highlight — such as feature interactions and crash logs — to improve performance and reliability. Any sensitive content is excluded from this data.
Technical Data:
  • We may collect basic information about your device and software environment (like your operating system) to ensure compatibility and enhance support.

In the future, we may collect additional types of information to better serve you. We’ll update this policy and communicate any changes clearly.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  • To provide and maintain our services;
  • To notify you about changes to our services;
  • To allow you to participate in interactive features of our services when you choose to do so;
  • To provide customer support;
  • To gather analysis or valuable information so that we can improve our services;
  • To monitor the usage of our services;
  • To detect, prevent, and address technical issues.

4. Storage of Your Information

We store as little of your information as possible in order to provide you the best possible experience with our services.

Your information is stored on secure servers and is only retained for as long as necessary to provide the services requested, and for legal or regulatory reasons.

Conversations with Highlight AI Chat are encrypted, and you may delete them at any time. Deletion is immediate — we do not "soft delete" chats.

We may disclose your personal information if required by law.

The security of your data is important to us but remember that no method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

7. Changes to This Privacy Policy

Our services are constantly evolving, and our Privacy Policy will change also. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.

8. Your Rights under the CCPA

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) grants you the following rights regarding your personal information:

  • Right to Know and Access: You have the right to request that we disclose certain information to you about our collection and use of your personal information over the past 12 months. Once we receive and confirm your verifiable consumer request, we will disclose to you:
    • The categories of personal information we collected about you.
    • The categories of sources for the personal information we collected about you.
    • Our business or commercial purpose for collecting or selling that personal information.
    • The categories of third parties with whom we share that personal information.
    • The specific pieces of personal information we collected about you (also called a data portability request).
  • Right to Deletion: You have the right to request that we delete any of your personal information that we collected from you and retained, subject to certain exceptions. Once we receive and confirm your verifiable consumer request, we will delete (and direct our service providers to delete) your personal information from our records, unless an exception applies.
  • Right to Opt-Out of the Sale of Personal Information: If Highlight AI sells your personal information, you have the right to opt-out of the sale of your personal information at any time.
  • Right to Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of your CCPA rights. Unless permitted by the CCPA, we will not:
    • Deny you goods or services.
    • Charge you different prices or rates for goods or services, including through granting discounts or other benefits, or imposing penalties.
    • Provide you a different level or quality of goods or services.
    • Suggest that you may receive a different price or rate for goods or services or a different level or quality of goods or services.

9. Exercising Your CCPA Rights

Only you, or a person registered with the California Secretary of State that you authorize to act on your behalf, may make a verifiable consumer request related to your personal information. You may also make a verifiable consumer request on behalf of your minor child.

You may only make a verifiable consumer request for access or data portability twice within a 12-month period. The verifiable consumer request must:

  • Provide sufficient information that allows us to reasonably verify you are the person about whom we collected personal information or an authorized representative.
  • Describe your request with sufficient detail that allows us to properly understand, evaluate, and respond to it.

We cannot respond to your request or provide you with personal information if we cannot verify your identity or authority to make the request and confirm the personal information relates to you. Making a verifiable consumer request does not require you to create an account with us. We will only use personal information provided in a request to verify the requestor's identity or authority to make the request.
